Carnegie Europe’s Marc Pierini joined ABC’s Beverley O’Connor to discuss the 2017 French presidential election. Pierini argued that Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Front party, will put up a tough fight against the center-right Republicans’ candidate, François Fillon, so it’s not guaranteed that he will become the next French president. Pierini attributed populism in Europe to fatigue with the political establishment, arguing that populations want to try something new.
