BRUSSELS—Carnegie Europe is pleased to be named Prospect magazine’s 2016 EU International Affairs Think Tank of the Year.
The Prospect Think Tank of the Year Awards recognize important and influential work done by think tanks in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States. Citing the enormous challenges that the political climate of the last year has posed for policy specialists, the awards “give credit to the most original, influential and rigorous work on the most pressing challenges facing people, governments and businesses today.”
Carnegie Europe was praised by the panel of thirteen judges for its work on Ukraine, European defense spending, and the governance of cyberspace. The judges noted that Carnegie Europe’s global perspective gave it the edge over its peers in this year’s competition.
Carnegie Europe’s interim director, Lizza Bomassi, said, “Carnegie Europe’s outstanding team of scholars and staff has worked hard to inspire a more outward-looking debate on European affairs and bring a deeper understanding of the geopolitical trends that are shaping the global landscape. We are extremely proud to have won Prospect’s prestigious award, particularly during this year of unprecedented foreign policy challenges in Europe.”
“I am very proud of Carnegie Europe and this richly deserved honor. By combining strong regional expertise with equally strong connections to the work of our other centers in Beijing, Beirut, Moscow, New Delhi, and Washington, Carnegie Europe exemplifies the value of a global perspective at a moment when governments across Europe, and around the world, are increasingly turning inward,” said William J. Burns, Carnegie’s president.
